Personal
Recapping two weeks here because we were on vacation last week. We went up to Michigan for an early Thanksgiving with my soon-to-be in-laws, since the few weeks before the wedding will be fairly hectic!

Dinner was wonderful, the turkey was perfectly prepared by my future mother-in-law and so moist, and my fiancé did an excellent job carving and presenting it! We were all so impressed. I also particularly loved the cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, pumpkin pie, and chocolate shortbread cookies.

We also enjoyed a dinner out at the beautiful Belvedere Inn. I had the roasted butternut squash and crabmeat bisque with the Chateaubriand and béarnaise sauce. Everything was delicious, and I wish I could have brought an entire bottle of that sauce home with me! Our waitress was also super sweet and helpful.
In Michigan, I saw the biggest, fattest opossum to ever opossum waddling around enjoying the dish of treats my soon-to-be in-laws’ neighbors feed it nightly. It reminded me of the scene in Charlotte’s Web where Templeton goes to the fair. (My very favorite version of this movie, with an incredible soundtrack by the Sherman Brothers!) Apologies for the horrible photo quality; it was taken from indoors at night and from a distance.

Fun fact: my future father-in-law constructed most of that fence himself! Isn’t it gorgeous?
We got to take a stroll around the Hope College campus. The bulk of the leaves had already fallen, but there was still some good autumnal color.

Looking forward to a short work week and the final planning leading up to the wedding!
Entertainment
Watched this 2024 version of Stephen King’s ‘Salem’s Lot and thought it was a fun movie and overall a pretty faithful adaptation of the book! There are definitely a few changes, but they don’t do too much damage to the spirit of the book.
I tried unsuccessfully to read The Pumpkin Spice Cafe for some cozy autumn vibes.
Currently drooling over this Easton Press version of Marshall Everett’s Story of the Wreck of the Titanic.
Discovered a new (to me) artist on Facebook this week: Leonard Koscianski. I was drawn in initially because his art reminded me of classic Disney backgrounds from the 1950s or so. (And that’s actually what I thought I was looking at at first–I’m always clicking on posts that show classic Disney backgrounds, and thought, ‘This is interesting; I can’t place these backgrounds. I wonder which movie or cartoon they’re from.’) Then after realizing that wasn’t what they were at all, I stayed for the vibes that were somehow both cozy and eerie. I’ll go with “unsettling”. I liked how several of them appeared to be of the exact same street from different angles and at different times.
