Here are 10 fun things I found online in July of 2023.
Art (Or Not?)
Whether or not you choose to refer to AI prompters as artists, or even if you’re undecided, it’s hard to deny that Ben Myhre is creating mysterious and magical worlds with AI. From dark manors to country lanes, from Oz to Hogwarts to Middle Earth and back again, these images are hauntingly beautiful. (As a random aside, I notice he is also followed by Harrison Ford’s son Ben.)
Books
Whatever your thoughts and feelings about Gilmore Girls (I always had a love/hate relationship with it, myself), there’s no denying that Rory Gilmore was well-read. Rory Gilmore’s reading list is, exactly as it sounds, a list of all 408 books referenced by Rory on the show (including the revival season). Here you’ll find classics, poetry, short stories, children’s books, pop fiction, and more.
For more reading adventures, here is a list of 100 weird books, if you’re into that sort of thing. I’m not certain, but I think by “weird”, they mean what most people refer to as “mind-bending”. Guess I’ll find out!
This eerily calming aesthetic compilation video from BookTok is for fans of Susanna Clarke’s Piranesi.
For more reading inspiration, here are the best novels I’ve read most recently.
Movies
This is just a Tumblr playing repeated loops of Aragorn opening the doors of Helm’s Deep. I still remember my awe watching this in the trailers on TV leading up to the release of this movie. It’s every bit as epic and sexy today as it was back then.
For Star Wars fans, “SEAGULLS! (Stop It Now)” is a hilarious bad lip-reading of The Empire Strikes Back, starring Yoda and Luke, that’s been stuck in my head for days now.
This is a nostalgic blog with reviews of classic Disney movies. I am all about classic Disney and love reading other people’s thoughts on old movies that most people I know have never even heard of, including some that have yet to make it to Disney Plus.
And while we’re on that subject, here’s a blog about scary Disney moments.
Fashion
For the fashion lovers among us, here is a blog all about Kate Middleton’s style. I am in love with her timeless elegance!
History/Current Events
Speaking of Kate, here’s a CNN page to help with understanding the British royal family’s line of succession.
