Andre’s Chocolates

It had been about a couple of years since the last time I had ordered chocolates. Since the nice, cool weather doesn’t have much longer, I decided it was high time to try a new brand, before the Florida heat could destroy a perfectly good order! This time, I opted for Andre’s Chocolates, since I could get a good variety for a little over $1 apiece.

I purchased Andre’s 21-piece assorted chocolates for $42, and their 6-piece cocktail truffles for $14. I figured there was enough variety in there that I could enjoy tons of different flavors, and my boyfriend could have a few, as well. (He mainly gets anything with coffee in it, since I can’t eat/drink it, and the occasional piece of dark chocolate.)

So, of the ones I tried, here’s how I felt about them. I’ll sort by what I would and would not include again if I could create a custom box.

Would Re-Buy

Manhattan: Warm and friendly.

Noix (milk chocolate): Creamy, slightly too rich at first, but then followed by a delicious Christmasy flavor. (“Christmasy” is the highest of compliments coming from me.)

Raspberry Truffle: Heavenly. The granulated sugar on the outside was an unexpectedly pleasant touch. I’d never had a truffle with that added detail before.

Buche: Divine.

Mint Julep: Very good! Like a Peppermint Patty with extra mmph.

Mai Tai: I was instantly reminded of Hugh Jackman in Kate and Leopold saying the words “fresh, creamery butter”. If you’re familiar with that movie and scene, you’ll understand how delicious every moment of that bite was.

Rocher (milk chocolate): Hearty and satisfying. The perfect blend of smooth, sweet chocolate with earthy crunch.

Macadamia Square: Beautiful design! I expected it to be crunchy, but it was actually creamy. Not too rich, just the perfect mouthfeel.

Orange Liqueur: Now this is a good blend of dark chocolate with sweet filling. I thoroughly enjoyed it, despite my feelings about dark chocolate.

Raspberry Heart (dark chocolate): Tart and sweet; the dark isn’t overbearing with the real fruit filling.

Champagne Truffle: The white and dark chocolate complement each other perfectly, making the cognac just the right extra kick! Very original!

Pistachio Marzipan: Delicious. It doesn’t even matter that it’s dark. Great balance.

Swissair: Wonderful! I like the tiny crispy bits inside the cream.

Amandine au Rum: Probably one of my favorites, even with the dark chocolate!

Milk Truffle: Just plain milk ganache, yet somehow unlike anything I’ve ever had before. Amazing!

Pecan Walnut: Turns out marzipan mixed with crunchy pecan is a dreamy combination!

Caramel Oval (milk chocolate): Delicious! Rich and creamy.

Would Not Re-Buy

Noisette Truffle: I can never seem to decide whether I actually like hazelnut-flavored things, but this was just sweet enough to make it worth my while.

Cognac Truffle: I’d never tried cognac and didn’t know what to expect. I think I’d have enjoyed this inside of a milk chocolate shell. I’ve never been a fan of dark chocolate (though it is growing on me slightly), but theirs is just too dark for me.

Caramel Oval (dark chocolate): Just too dark for me.

Bourbon Truffle: Too dark, but nice kick!

Conclusion

Even for someone as picky as me, there were very few I wouldn’t love to try again.
