“The Age of Adaline” and Why You Should Know About Anthony Ingruber

What do you get when you mix Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, Jeff Goldblum, Jack Nicholson, and whichever Joker you choose?

You get Anthony Ingruber.

Ingruber, who does amazing impressions of all these and more, has had a strong internet following for years, but I didn’t discover him until opening night of Mockingjay: Part 1, when I first saw the trailer for a movie called The Age of Adaline (opening this Friday).

“Look, Carrington, there’s your boyfriend!” said my friend Becky, when Harrison Ford’s face appeared on the screen.  Harrison and I go way back.  I’ve considered him the official Love Of My Life since the age of 7, and have been an expert on all things Harrison Ford since I was 12.  But that’s another story.

So there’s the Object Of My Affection on the screen in this trailer for a movie that appears to be a sort of Tuck Everlasting-reminiscent tale about a girl who doesn’t age.  Kind of chick-flickish, perhaps, and I don’t watch a lot of chick flicks, but the ones that have a sci-fi twist and/or have Harrison Ford in them catch my attention.  And I’ve always loved Tuck Everlasting.

From the trailer, there’s a scene in this movie where Harrison’s character sees Adaline in the present and thinks she looks remarkably like this girl he had a close relationship with years ago.  And then it cuts to a scene where Adaline is looking very cozy with a guy who is so obviously supposed to be Harrison Ford’s younger self that I actually swooned.

For years, every time I’ve heard rumors about the Indiana Jones series being rebooted with someone else in the title role…every time someone has suggested an actor to portray a young Han Solo…I have been disappointed.  I’ve scoured the internet in pursuit of a lookalike.  (Dennis Quaid?  Really?  He’s a good-looking guy and all, but he does not look like Harrison to me.  And I’ve spent ridiculous amounts of time looking at Harrison.)

Anthony Ingruber has me convinced.

As we sat in that theatre, and I saw his face for the first time, I was stunned.

“Who was that!?” I murmured to Becky.

“What?  Who was who?  I didn’t see,” she replied.

“That guy,” I said.  “That guy looked just like a young Harrison Ford!”

Mockingjay: Part 1 was all right and all, but when I got home, all I could think about was The Age of Adaline.  I went straight to IMDB to investigate this miracle of genetics and, as I soon discovered, talent.  After learning his name, I did a Google search to determine whether Anthony still resembled Harrison Ford as much as I had at first thought.  This search led me to Anthony’s YouTube page, where I spent the next few hours marveling at a treasure trove of talent before heading to his Twitter account to tell him how impressed I was.

Here’s why you should know about Anthony Ingruber:  With all the reboots happening today, with Star Wars making a return to the big screen, there’s a good chance we’re going to need someone who can do justice to a young Harrison Ford in roles we have loved for decades, and I—and many others—believe there is no one else who can compare.  Check out these videos.  Watch The Age of Adaline.  See for yourself.  Could you really entrust anyone else to some of your all-time favorite roles now that you know this guy exists?

This was the first video I watched.  As well as I know him and this scene, there were a few seconds there where I forgot I was not actually watching Harrison Ford.

Indy with bonus Sean Connery!

Check out the rest of his page.  There are lots of other killer impressions here in addition to the Harrison Ford ones!
