When I saw that Unique Vintage had licensed actual vintage Barbie outfits for the human form, I was enchanted. There were a few pieces I just had to add to my vintage-inspired closet.
My photographer for this shoot was MB85 Photography. Kaitlin Francois did hair and makeup. (I previously teamed up with both of them for another vintage-inspired shoot in San Marco.)
Dressy
First of all, let’s talk about this costume jewelry. This necklace and the matching earrings belonged to my grandmother and just happened to have every color from my outfit in them.
Okay, ignoring the unfortunate wrinkles my skirt picked up on the way to the shoot, check out these great colors! And I love that the hem is lined with pictures of Barbie through the years.
Oh yeah, and it has pockets!
How about this off-shoulder top, though? I could not get over that dusty rose color and how flawlessly it went with the skirt!
I also lucked out on these shoes days before the shoot. My neighbor was moving away and cleaning out her closet, so now they’re mine.
Casual
This top was another official Barbie item from Unique Vintage.
The capris and shorts (we couldn’t decide which we liked better) are not Barbie or Unique Vintage. They both came from ModCloth. (Also, you can’t see them in any of these photos, but I’m wearing some red posts–another pair of my grandmother’s vintage earrings.)
By the way, the makeup for this shoot was inspired by old photos of Elizabeth Taylor and of some of the earliest Barbies.
I just like how this photo almost looks reminiscent of Rosie the Riveter.
Witchy
My third look for this shoot is actually not Barbie at all, but was inspired by the question of what a vintage witch-themed Barbie might look like.
I didn’t initially set out to make it Gryffindor-colored, but it worked out well since that is my Hogwarts house.
Both my Ginny Weasley wand and my Holyhead Harpies brooch are official Wizarding World items, as are my Snitch earrings.
These wonderful shoes (which I almost never wear because it rains almost every single day in Florida) are from ModCloth. For heels, they are quite comfortable.
The cardigan is from Amazon. It’s cute and comfy and works well at the office, so I have it in a few different colors. The gloves are from there, too.
The black-and-white-striped top is from White House Black Market. The skirt was an old Allume find. (RIP, Allume.)
And of course, the hat. You can get it in various colors from Etsy. I like to support independent artists on Etsy whenever possible rather than going straight to Amazon.
